  Press Release: Nebraska Jazz Orchestra: New Horizons (2/20/2001)  

February, 2001:  PRESS RELEASE

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra proudly announces its fourth concert of the 2000-2001 season with a program entitled New Horizons, featuring saxophonist Bobby Watson.  This concert is sponsored in part by Nebraska Diamond.

The concert will be held at the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra’s new home, the Cornhusker Hotel, 333 S. 13th Street, Lincoln, on Thursday, March 1st at 7:30 p.m.  Priority seating for season ticket members only starts at 7:00-7:15 p.m., and general admission seating begins at 7:15 p.m. for tickets purchased at the door.

General admission tickets may be purchased at the concert or ordered in advance by contacting the business office at Arts Incorporated, (402) 477-8446, 216 North 11th Street, Suite 202 in Lincoln, NE, 68508-1401. Tickets purchased at the door are:  $7 for students, $12 for senior citizens, and $15 for adults.

Celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra proudly announces its third concert of the 2000-2001 season with a program entitled Learning From The Master, featuring trombonist Benny Powell, a former member of the Count Basie Orchestra.  Also featured will be the 2001 Young Lions All-Star Big Band.

Celebrating its 26th Anniversary Season, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra proudly announces its second concert of the 2001-2002 season with a program entitled Christmas and All That Jazz, featuring Metropolitan Opera star, Ariel Bybee.

 

The concert will be held at the Cornhusker Hotel, 333 13th Street, Lincoln, on Tuesday, December 11th at 7:30 p.m.  Priority seating for season ticket members only starts at 7:00-7:15, and general admission seating begins at 7:15 for tickets purchased at the door.

Guest Vocalist Ariel Bybee, was recently described by Opera News as having been “a prominent Mezzo at the Metropolitan Opera for eighteen seasons.”  At the Met and elsewhere she has performed such roles as Carmen, Hansel, Nicklausse, Suzuki, and Jenny in Kurt Weill’s Mahagonny.  Her many concert engagements include performances in Elektra, conducted by Lorin Maazel at Carnegie Hall, and by James Levine at the Ravinia Festival.  Miss Bybee can be heard in Franco Zeffirelli’s motion picture of La Traviata, singing the ro

PRESS RELEASE:  August, 2000

As part of its 25th Anniversary Season, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra is proud to initiate the presentation of the John Tavlin Award For “Outstanding Contributions to Music in Lincoln Nebraska”.

The John Tavlin Award is named in honor of one of the founding members of the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra.  This award, presented annually, is given to an individual or organization that has given outstanding support to musical performance, especially in the field of big band and jazz music, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The first annual award will be presented to Bobby Layne, leader of the Bobby Layne Orchestra and owner of the Pla-Mor Ballroom, where live music has been a regular feature for many years for the dancing and listening pleasure of the residents of Lincoln and the surrounding area.

Bobby Layne has been leading his versatile orchestra for many years.  The orchestra is well versed in any style of music from the 30’s up to today’s current hits.

PRESS RELEASE:  August, 2000

The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra proudly announces its 25th Anniversary Season for 2000-2001 with an exciting series of concerts in Lincoln.

The Lincoln concerts will all take place at the Cornhusker Hotel, 333 South 13th Street.  The Season Opening Dance will be at the Pla-Mor Ballroom, 6600 West ‘O’, and the Valentine Cocktail/Dance will be at the Country Club of Lincoln. Season Concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. with priority seating for season members only from 7:00-7:15, and general admission beginning at 7:15 for tickets purchased at the door.  The Opening Dance will be at 8:00 p.m., and the Valentine Cocktail/Dance begins at 6:30 p.m.

As part of your 25th Anniversary celebration, we will also be featuring several exciting and nationally recognized guest artists.  Their Bio information is also enclosed.

The title for this concert is “Salute to American Music,” featuring selections by Leonard Bernstein, John Philip Sousa, Roger Jager, and other American composers.

This concert will also feature the 8th Annual Shildneck

  Press Release: Lincoln Civic Orchestra: Triple Concerto (2/14/2001)  

PRESS RELEASE: February, 2001

The Lincoln Civic Orchestra announces its second concert in the 2000-2001 Concert Season.  The concert is entitled “Mozart, Mendelssohn & more…,” and will be featuring as guest artist the Nebraska Wesleyan University Senior Solo Concerto Competition Winner, Abbi Gealy.  The concert will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2001, in O’Donnell Auditorium on the campus of Nebraska Wesleyan University, located at 50th and Huntington streets in Lincoln.  The concert will begin at 3:00 p.m.  Questions regarding access to the multi-story facility should be directed to the Nebraska Wesleyan University Department of Music at (402) 465-2268 in advance of the event.
