NEBRASKA BRASS PRESENTS “SWINGING BRASS” - FEATURING “TOUCH OF CLASS JAZZ CHOIR” Contact: Nebraska Brass 402-477-7899 The Nebraska Brass will swing into its season opener, “Swinging Brass,” featuring Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Touch of Class Jazz Choir under the direction of Boyd Bacon. The 18-member student ensemble Touch of Class was organized in 1975 as a major performing ensemble with Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Department of Music. Since its inception, the group has toured extensively throughout the Midwest. Swinging Brass will feature selections for brass quintet alone, including John Cheetham’s “Allusions for Brass Quintet” and Aaron Copland’s “Simple Gifts.” The choir will join the ensemble for the premiere of a new composition, “Te Deum” by Boyd Bacon, and several well-known jazz tunes such as “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans?,” “Birth of the Blues” and “Blues in the Night.” Touch of Class Jazz Choir members include: Emily Davenport, Gothenburg, NE; Jessica Swerczek, Belgrade, NE; Audrey Swenson, Ft. The Nebraska Brass, founded in 1987, includes members Dean Haist, trumpet; Brad Obbink, trumpet; Richard Ricker, French horn; Mark Mendell, trombone; and John Thomason, tuba. In addition to performing five series concerts each concert season, the Nebraska Brass provides educational outreach to Nebraska elementary students through the Nebraska Brass Education & Community Outreach Project. |
