The Nebraska Jazz Orchestra announces its 2006 Nebraska Jazz Camp, to be held July 24-28, 2006 on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus in Lincoln. The camp is open to musicians from seventh-grade and up, and it is an excellent opportunity to improve jazz skills in a fun atmosphere.

Camp faculty will serve as clinicians, instructors and performers throughout the week. Students will take part in a full week of intensive master classes including Jazz Improvisation and Theory, Standard Jazz Literature and Electronic Music. They will also participate in big bands, combos and jam sessions, and will attend local jazz performances and social events off-campus.

Family, friends, and community members are welcome to attend the final camp performances, showcasing the learning that has taken place throughout the week. The first performance is the Big Band concert, to be held Thursday, July 27, at 4:30 p.m. The Jazz Combo concert will be held Friday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. Both performances will take place in O’Donnell Auditorium at the Rogers Fine Arts Center on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus.

Camp instructors and guest artists include: Dean Haist, Camp Director; Scott Vicroy, woodwinds and jazz history; Mark Benson, woodwinds; Brian Grasmick, trumpet and music technology; Pete Madsen, trombone; Ron Cooley, guitar; Tom Harvill, piano; Joey Guilizia, percussion; and Rusty White, bass.

Tuition costs: Resident (room, board & tuition) $395; Commuter (tuition only) $235. There is a non-refundable deposit of $75 due with the application. A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available based on financial need. Registration deadline: July 1, 2006. A $30 late fee will be assessed after this date.
