The Association of Nonprofit Executives (ANPE) is pleased to announce Monica Zinke, Executive Director of Fresh Start as the winner of the 2017 ANPE Nonprofit Executive of the Year Award.  The award, sponsored by US Bank, was presented at the ANPE annual awards luncheon held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Cornhusker Marriott.

Four other Executive Directors nominated were also recognized for their contributions to the nonprofit community. They are Drew Duncan from Abendmusik, Randy Hawthorne from Nonprofit Hub, Christina Hoyt from Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and Peggy Reisher from Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska.

Each year the Association of Nonprofit Executives recognizes the 'Nonprofit Executive of the Year.'  This award recognizes nonprofit executives who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, direction, and vision, with the winner of the award receiving $500 and the nonprofit organization they represent also receiving $500. Morrie Enders, Executive Director of the Lincoln Community Playhouse, was the keynote speaker for the luncheon, with Rod Fowler of Channel 8 Eyewitness News as the Master of Ceremonies.  Entertainment for the luncheon was provided by  pianist John Carlini.

Monica Zinke became Executive Director of Fresh Start, a transitional shelter that empowers homeless women to change their lives, in 2008. During her 20 plus years in human services, Zinke has focused on needs ranging from homelessness to mental health to disaster recovery. Zinke is a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in Nebraska. As a passionate advocate for women and the homeless, Ms. Zinke is also involved with related community efforts, including the Lincoln/Lancaster Homeless Coalition and Project Homeless Connect, Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, Human Services Federation, and a new trauma informed task force organized by Lancaster County Community Corrections.
