| Join the Nebraska Brass for a special concert this Thursday, and the world premiere of "Soundtrack," a new piece by Nolan Schmit. The Nebraska Music Teachers Association has commissioned Nolan Schmit to write a piece that will be premiered at the NMTA State Convention. The Nebraska Brass will perform this new piece at a special concert on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 1:15pm at the Strauss Center for Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. The Nebraska Brass will present a 50 minute concert that will include the premiere of Mr. Schmit's new compostion, "Soundtrack." Nolan Schmit was named Composer of the Year by the Nebraska Music Teachers Association and therefore selected to be commissioned to write a new piece of music for chamber ensemble to be premiered at their annual state convention. Mr. Schmit has written for many different types of performers, including choirs, bands, soloists, brass quintets, and other chamber ensembles. His works for concert band have been performed all over the world, including the United States, Europe, and Asia. A number of his works have been published by Kjos and Lorenz Music Publishers. Because of the quality of literature that he writes, his relationship with band directors, and his experience as an educator, he has been commissioned by several schools to compose new works for their bands. Most recently, the Nebraska Music Educators Association commissioned him to create new audition etudes for wind instruments, to be used for their extensive audition process for the All-State Band. |
